It's an interpretation, not a copy, of the original. And includes a couple of flubs at the end which I covered up pretty well.

Played on a Brian Cohen classical guitar, the design of which is inspired by Julian Bream's 1940 Hauser.

Original piece with a highly imaginative title:

Played on an amazing Christopher Dean guitar, recorded using a pair of AT 4041's into a Presonus Firebox preamp into Cubase SE on an iMac. A very slight amount of compression and reverb were added.

Happy VD, everyone!

A traditional Catalan folk melody, 'El Noi de la Mare'.

Originally arranged for guitar by Miguel Llobet (1878-1938), this short piece was a favorite encore piece used by Andres Segovia (1893-1987) and was the music that was open on his music stand when he passed away. It is a lovely, evocative melody.

My performance is 'ok', but a little stiff which is not uncommon when the little red 'record' light goes on. Oh well......enjoy!

Original piece played on a 1978 spruce/Indian Manuel Velazquez classical guitar:

Recording chain is a pair of Audio Technica 4041's into Presonus Firebox into Cubase on an iMac. A little bit of compression and reverb were added in Cubase.

If anyone is interested in the music for this piece, I wrote it out and can post it.

I got a new amp (Tone King Metropolitan) and this clip captures some wankage after it first arrived. The clip was ad-lib'd on the spot so don't expect too too much!

'Scherzino Mexicano' by Manuel Ponce (1882-1948; read about his biography on Wikipedia; he was a contemporary of and wrote for Andres Segovia). This is a short, melodic piece with interesting shifts between duple and triple meter. And the middle section is constructed in hemiola form (3 beats on 2 beats) with the melody being in quarter note triplets and the bass line descending chromatically in quarter notes.

Played on a beautiful Aaron Green classical guitar, spruce top with Madagascar rosewood back & sides. (also for sale, btw)

Antonio Lauro (1917-1986) was an accomplished Venezuelan composer and guitarist. He wrote many important works for guitar, but he was also widely known for his compositions which include works for voice, piano, percussion, string quartet, and orchestra. I play one of his famous Valses (waltzes), Natalia, which was named after his daughter. Natalia has two parts. The first part is in a minor key and it is rhythmically and harmonically very interesting with its interplay between duple and triple meter and interesting broken arpeggios. The second part resolves to the major key and flows into a graceful, danceable Valse. (the second part would have sounded more graceful if I hadn't missed a couple of notes!)

I recorded this on a beautiful spruce/Bz Traphagen guitar, two mics into a Mackie mixer into a stereo CD recorder. I then played back the raw tracks from a second CD player into the mixer (adjust pan, EQ, add some stereo effects from an effects processor) into the CD recorder. Very 80's. Pics below. And yes, the stocking feet are a BIG part of the equation here.

Here is a half-baked version of Antonio Lauro's "Natalia"

I say half-baked because the song is written in two parts, the first part is in Em, the second part in E major......I recorded only the E major part. Very cool-sounding song and fun to play.....a lot of hemiolas (3 against 2 rhythms). Next time, I'll do the whole shebang.Antonio Lauro was a prolific guitarist-composer from Venezuela.
