Here is my entry... another song I wrote many years ago. It was on an album in 1992 and I have played it live more times than I can recall. added: This actually happened on Interstate 80 driving east to west from the Pocono Mountains to Columbus, Ohio. I was going to visit my brother. When I got to his place I wrote down the lyrics I had in my head in his livingroom. When I went home to the Poconos, I recorded it and it was on the subsequent album.
I was rolling along on Interstate 80 when a lady caught my eye. Well, I happened to see that she was unescorted as her jaguar was passing me by.
Two miles farther I began to wonder... What's she doing all alone. And, what are the odds that a beautiful woman ain't gotta man waitin' back home.
It ain't easy getting a date when you're out on the highway. And introductions are pretty rare from the passing lane. Roadside rests are for resting, and people come and go fast, and I know I might never pass this way again.
Well, there's nothing to do, but, keep on driving... get to where I gotta go. The sound of the road and the roar of the engine make it hard to hear my radio.
There's only so much any man can handle when he's on the road all day. Driving alone can get pretty boring Is anybody going my way?
It ain't easy gettin' a date when you're out on the highway. And the closest I get to an Escort's the name of my car. So to all those lonely ladies rolling down the highway... Well, I'd sure like to get to know you where ever you are. I'd sure like to get to know you where ever you are.
